Elton John Struggles with Vision Loss While Attending ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ Premiere

Elton John said that he found it difficult to watch his new musical due to vision loss caused by an infection.

The legendary singer-songwriter attended the opening night of “The Devil Wears Prada” in London on Sunday, where he informed the audience, stating, “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight.

“So it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight.”

In September, John shared that an infection had significantly impaired his vision, leaving him with limited sight in one eye. On Instagram, he wrote, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

John composed the score for “The Devil Wears Prada,” a stage musical adaptation of the 2006 film about a young journalist navigating the glamorous and demanding world of a high-fashion magazine. The production, held at London’s Dominion Theatre, features Vanessa Williams as the formidable editor Miranda Priestly, a role originally portrayed by Meryl Streep in the film.

The gala on Sunday, a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, attracted numerous celebrities and fashion industry icons, including designer Donatella Versace and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who is said to have inspired the Priestly character.
