Elon Musk, the multibillionaire founder of Tesla Inc., has said he would step down as Twitter’s CEO in six weeks and that a new person will fill the post.
In a tweet sent on Thursday, Musk discussed his departure from the firm.
Musk had hinted in February 2023 that he would stand down as Twitter’s CEO and give the position to someone else before the end of the year. The billionaire made the announcement of the replacement seven months before the year’s conclusion.
Musk then said that when his replacement, a female who has not yet been named, assumes control, he will serve as Twitter’s chief technology officer (CTO) and chairman.
The tweet read, “Excited to announce that I have a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in six weeks. My role will transition to being executive chair and CTO, overseeing product, software and system operations (sysops).”
If all goes according to plan, the next CEO will be the first woman to run the dominant social media company. Since the company’s founding, Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Dick Costolo, Parag Agrawal, and Musk have all served as its chief executives.
The Tesla billionaire promised to step down as CEO of Twitter when he finds someone “foolish enough to take the job” last year.
In the past, Musk had promised to follow the results of a Twitter poll he had conducted to decide whether or not he should continue serving as CEO.
Out of the 17.5 million people that took part in the survey, 57.5% requested his exit.
