More than a hundred members of Trade Union Congress (TUC) besieged the head offices of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) over the recent electricity tariff hike in Nigeria.
Most of the protesters were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “Stop Suffocating Us,” “Cut Down the Reckless Cost of Governance,” and “The Poor Can No Longer Breathe,” among others.
The protesters who were mainly drawn from the (NLC) and the (TUC stood at the entrance gate of the KEDCO head office, along post office road in the city, singing Labour Solidarity songs.
The unions members demanded a reversal of the hike and to put an end to discriminatory practices in the electricity sector.
The union leaders criticized the Federal Government’s policies, saying they have suffocated Nigerians for increasing the electricity tarrifs.
