Ekiti Governor Oyebanji Reaffirms Commitment To Improving Educational Infrastructure

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the state.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new ultra-modern Senate Building at the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI), Oyebanji highlighted the importance of quality infrastructure in achieving global educational standards.

The Senate Building, a significant addition to the university, was donated by the Chancellor of BOUESTI and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, attracted dignitaries including Minister of Education Dr Olatunji Alausa; former Ondo State Governor Dr Olusegun Mimiko; Secretary to the State Government Dr (Mrs) Habibat Adubiaro; Senator Olanrewaju Tejuoso; BOUESTI Governing Council Chairman Prof Patrick Aina; and vice-chancellors of other universities.

Highlighting the significance of the newly inaugurated Senate Building, Oyebanji described it as a milestone in BOUESTI’s development and pledged to continue creating opportunities for Ekiti students to access world-class education. “Today’s event is very significant in the development of this university and the overall development of education in our state. I, therefore, congratulate Chief Olanipekun, his wife, and the entire university community on the completion of this magnificent edifice,” he remarked.

Oyebanji stressed that a well-developed education system is critical for societal growth. He noted his administration’s strides in upgrading the infrastructure of primary and secondary schools across Ekiti, aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment.

“As a government, we understand the importance of education to the overall development plan of Ekiti State. Indeed human capital development is one critical item in our shared prosperity agenda as encapsulated in our six-pillars. Our government remains committed to continuous improvement of our education infrastructure to facilitate a conducive learning environment at all levels of education,” he stated.

The Governor lauded Chief Olanipekun for his generosity and long-standing contributions to the state’s development, describing him as a pillar of development in the state. Oyebanji expressed hope that other prominent Ekiti indigenes would emulate Olanipekun’s commitment to community service, saying that collective efforts are essential for meaningful development.

Chief Olanipekun, in his address, revealed that his decision to fund and fast-track the Senate Building project was part of his commitment to giving back to his community. He expressed pride in supporting the university’s vision of academic excellence and Oyebanji’s efforts to develop education, human capital, and infrastructure in Ekiti.

The Minister of Education, Dr Alausa, praised Olanipekun’s selfless contributions, which he said demonstrated a commitment to national growth. Alausa reiterated the federal government’s prioritisation of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medical sciences (STEM) under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that equipping Nigeria’s youth with critical and innovative skills is essential for the country’s future growth and competitiveness.

The event underscored a shared vision for elevating educational standards and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to build a brighter future for Ekiti State.
