Eight Dead After Concrete Canopy Collapses at Railway Station in Northern Serbia

Eight people have died following a concrete canopy collapse at Novi Sad railway station, with rescuers working to reach trapped survivors.

Eight people have tragically lost their lives following the collapse of a concrete canopy at a railway station in Novi Sad, Serbia’s second-largest city.

The incident occurred around noon local time (11:00 GMT) as people rested on benches beneath the outdoor overhang, according to Serbia’s national broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS).

Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed the death toll and reported that two additional people had been hospitalized. One of the injured, a man, sustained severe injuries requiring the amputation of his legs.

Emergency responders remain at the scene and are in contact with two individuals trapped under the debris, including a young girl, as rescue efforts continue.

The collapse has shaken the community, with many questioning the structural integrity of the station’s facilities.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, while officials expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
