Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State on Thursday assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would produce a candidate that will be acceptable to the electorate in Edo State.
Uzodimma who was speaking ahead of of the Edo State governorship primaries scheduled for Saturday described the APC as a fantastic brand that would be acceptable to the electorates.
The Governor expressed the optimism shortly after the inauguration of the primary election committee by the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje in Abuja.
He expressed gratitude to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) for the confidence reposed on him to oversee the exercise.
Uzodinma said it behoves on members of the committee to work in harmony with the local committee to produce a candidate that would be acceptable to the electorate ahead of the governorship election.
He said, “It is indeed an honour to call on all of us as members of these two important committees to go to Edo State to midwife the process of selecting a gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming election. It is a thing of big trust, and we feel humbled.
“On behalf of myself and members of these committees, we want to thank you and the National Working Committee for this show of confidence and our prayers is that we work hard to justify this confidence reposed on us.
“Our party is a fantastic brand, a very popular and good product. It behoves on members of our committee to work in harmony with the local leadership of the party in Edo State to bring up a product that will look like our party and is easily marketable in Edo State. To the glory of God, we will do our best. We want to thank you and members of our party and urge you to also pray for us to God Almighty to give us the wherewithal to carry out this assignment.”
The National Organising Secretary of APC, Suleiman Argungu, said that 12 aspirants would be participating in the primaries of the party.
He assured that the APC would ensure the conduct of exercise using the direct primary mode in a fair and just manner in line with the dictates of the party constitution.
