DSS Raids Mamu’s Kaduna Residence, Discovers Military Equipment, Cash

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have raided the Kaduna residence of hostage negotiator Tukur Mamu.

The DSS operatives were said to have invaded his residence in Anguwan Dosa area of Kaduna in the early hours of Thursday.

Residents of the house said laptops, documents and telephones were taken away by the DSS operatives after ransacking everywhere in the house.
His office, located at Anguwan Sarki area of Kaduna was also ransacked by the security operatives.

The raid was confirmed by the DSS. According to its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, “incriminating materials including military accoutrements were recovered.

“Other items include large amounts in different currencies and denominations as well as financial transaction instruments,” he said.

Mamu who is the publisher of Kaduna based Desert Herald newspaper and a media consultant to Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric , was the negotiator for the release of the abducted passengers of the March 28, Abuja – Kaduna attack, although he later pulled out when he alleged that there plans to blackmail him.
Millions of naira was said to have been paid to the terrorists for the freedom of 39 of the 62 abducted passengers who were released in batches.

Mamu, his two wives, his eldest son and one of his inlaws were on their way to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj when he was arrested in Cairo and detained for 24 hours before he was repatriated to Nigeria on Wednesday.
The DSS had in a statement Wednesday,, said Mamu’s arrest “followed a request by Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement and Intelligence Community to their foreign partners to bring back Mamu to the country to answer critical questions on ongoing investigations relating to some security matters in parts of the country.”
