DJ Cuppy, Rema, Fireboy Make Future Awards Africa 2020 Nominee List

As the kick-off date of The Future Awards Africa’s first three-day digital festival draws near, the group has announced its list of nominees for its 15th edition.

The Future Festival will hold a TV & Digital Festival from 27 – 29 November, while The Future Awards Africa will be broadcast on 28 November on Africa Magic, MTV Base and Pop Central.

Among the list of young achievers to join an already formidable class of TFAA alumni are comedian and actor, Debo’ Mr Macaroni’ Adebayo; musicians DJ Cuppy, Rema and Fireboy; poet Romeo Oriogun; creative director and fashion designer, King David, Winifred ‘Zeelicious Foods’ Emmanuel and actress, Jemima Osunde.

The Awards honours young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the past year.

Speaking on the nominations, Chief Operating Officer RED For Africa, Bukonla Adebakin said, “This year’s nominated list of extraordinary and impressive young people from across Africa cuts across various fields and institutions.

“Even in turbulent times for many nations, they persisted and achieved incredible feats through determination, empathy, hard work, determination and creativity.

“From movies to music, governance and fashion, these categories encompass the youngest and brightest minds on the continent who have inspired us all, impacted policies and politics, and are positively bending the course of our societies.

“It is with such immense hope in the future of our content and recognition of nominees’ achievements that we unveil the class of 2020,” she said.

In the highly-competitive music category, Rema, Fireboy and DJ Cuppy will face off against Omah Lay, alternative artist Lady Donli and singer-songwriter Tems.

Actress Jemima Osunde faces stiff competition in the Acting category from Big Brother Naija alumnus Tobi Bakre; ‘Living in Bondage’ star Jide-Kene Achufusi, ‘Shuga’ actress Ruby Akubueze and multi-hyphenate Bukunmi Oluwasina.

In recognition of the remarkable progress recorded in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence this year, The Future Awards Africa will also donate 25 per cent of profits accrued this year to NGOs working to end sexual and gender-based violence in Nigeria.
