Douye Diri, incumbent governor of Bayelsa State has won the People’s Democratic Party’s primaries without contest, making him the PDP candidate for the upcoming guber elections in the state.
In an Interview with ARISE NEWS on Thursday, Diri, who has dubbed himself “The Miracle Governor” came out to make his intentions known as to why he should be re-elected for a second term in the state, despite criticisms from Labour Party guber aspirant, Udengs Eradiri.
Eradiri criticised the governor internally generated revenue and unemployment which is over 32%.
He also questioned the governor’s structural understanding of the state.
In response, Diri mentioned multiple projects carried out by his administration, saying that he had brought peace and serenity to the state.
“Is he querying the completion of the judges quarters? Is that what has been misplaced? I don’t understand some of these people who want power at all costs. Rather than addressing issues, they are throwing tantrums. I am not here for that.”
The governor questioned Eradiri’s impact in the community during his tenure as commissioner of environment as the state still suffers intensely from environmental disasters such as flooding.
Diri made known his main concerns and aspirations if elected for a second term, saying that he expects to capitalize on the private sector for employment growth, with an estimate of 2000 youths through the AAGS program as well as using it as a way for internal revenue growth.
The governor said that the decline in the state’s internal revenue was due to the government taking away resources and expropriating it to external institutes rather than allowing the state to capitalize on it.
He urged his opponents to “open their eyes” and see the works that he has established in the state, accusing them of “not seeing even with their eyes open”.
