Dino Melaye, Others Stage Walkout on INEC Chairman, Want Result Collation In Abuja Stopped

Former senator Dino Melaye and a former governor of Imo State Emeka Ihedioha have protested the presentation of results at the national collation centre, Abuja on Monday.

Melaye, an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had expressed dissatisfaction on the process of the collation of results from state collation officers for the presidential election.

He had requested that uploaded results must be displayed on the screen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the exercise could continue. He alleged that the uploaded results differ from what collation officers were presenting.

“INEC failed in the transmission of results. When I and other party agents raised the issue, the INEC chairman evaded the comments,” he said.

Consequently, many party leaders have bitterly complained that INEC officials at the polling units were unable to upload election results at the IReV.

Melaye affirmed that the only way for them to see that BVAS hasn’t been bypassed is to see uploaded results. “

“We insist the INEC chairman displays uploaded results by state as the results are being presented,” he said.

While the PDP party agent expressed his dissatisfaction, INEC Chairman, Mahood Yakubu,  cautioned him (Dino Melaye) not to be “disruptive” of the collation process at the insistence of the PDP Chieftain that the results announced by the State Collation Officers should have first been uploaded on IReV for transparency and accountability.

In reaction, Dino Melaye, Emeka Ihedioha, and others staged a work out of the national collation centre.

The collation process had thus continued in their absence.
