Dino Melaye: INEC Had Chance To Be Born Again, But Election Rigging In Kogi Was Legendary

People’s Democratic Party 2023 governorship candidate for Kogi State, Dino Melaye has openly rejected the recently announced results from the November 11th off-season elections and has called out Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu to expose the alleged malpractice in the elections.

In a Monday interview on ARISE NEWS, Senator Dino expressed his refusal to accept the results and his intentions to reveal the ‘”fraud” allegedly done by INEC.

“I have seen different forms of rigging but never have I in my life, seen the type of pattern used in Kogi. It’s legendary.”

According to the senator, “I want to start by saying that there was no election in Kogi State. What we had was vote allocation by INEC. INEC is a great disappointment and a fraud. INEC and Mahmood Yakubu are the bane of our democratic development. They are the reason why we are where we are.

“A big shame on Mahmood Yakubu because the off-season elections gave INEC a chance to redeem their image. They had an opportunity to become born again and erase their negative past but unfortunately INEC is oozing.”

The former senator stated that this had caused Nigerians to lose their faith in the electoral body and in democracy as a whole. He described the election process as “appalling and disgraceful”, lamenting that over five local government areas had bypassed the BVAS accreditation and performed manual accreditation to allow result manipulation. He also pointed out cases of over voting where the number of votes collated, surpassed the number of registered voters.

“This evening, they already started changing the numbers of registered voters on the site but we already downloaded the information yesterday to about 97.6% of it uploaded. But now shamefully, they have started changing it,” he further accused.

Sen. Melaye also stated that though INEC acknowledged the reports of malpractice in certain LGAs, no action was taken as results from the wards were still announced and also accused the of tampering with results of LGAs where he had won.

Dino Melaye alleged that the results were an orchestrated plan to put him in third position so as to knock him off as competition and he warned SDP candidate, Ajaka not to rejoice over his position as it was all fabricated.

Sen. Melaye vowed to expose the alleged fraud committed during the elections as all evidence have been forwarded to the electoral body giving the a 7-day ultimatum to respond according to law.
