Devastating Storm Hits KwaZulu-Natal, Leaving 11 Dead

South Africa’s coastal province of KwaZulu-Nata has been hit with a storm that killed eleven people.

A powerful storm tore through the South African coastal province of KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 11 people and causing extensive damage, according to local officials.

On Tuesday, drone footage captured the aftermath of the storm in the town of Tongaat, with residents seen sifting through the wreckage of their damaged homes, attempting to salvage whatever belongings they could find.

Local media reports have quoted Nomusa Dube-Ncube, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, expressing concern that the death toll could increase beyond the 11 fatalities reported so far.

Trevor Freemantle, a driver who witnessed the storm, recorded dramatic footage of dark clouds swirling ominously above the suburb of La Mercy near Durban. He said, “It really did look like something you would see in a movie. After it passed, I noticed vehicles that had been struck by debris and a truck had been turned on its side.”

Emergency services and local authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected communities.
