In the world of football, very few transfer stories capture the imagination quite like the potential move of Harry Kane. The English captain, widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the game, has been linked with several top clubs including Bayern Munich who have had two of their bids rejected but are not backing out from their pursuit.
However, Manchester United seem to be knocking on the door and there are more than enough reasons why Kane’s most suitable destination could be at Old Trafford.
Manchester United under Erik ten Hag found a new lease of life after lifting their first major trophy since 2017 but fans are still desperate to relive the glory days they experienced with Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm. They have had their struggles with dominating league games consistently, putting balls into the box frequently and finishing chances.
Last season, United missed seventy-one (71) big chances which is ranked second (2nd) amongst teams in the league while scoring just fifty-eight (58) goals which is ranked eighth (8th) in the league and fifth (5th) amongst the big six clubs, bettering only Chelsea.
The numbers are a clear indicator that Ten Hag has a lot of work to do in attack if he is to take the club a step further by challenging for the league title, and one of the most creative solutions could be recruiting Tottenham’s record goalscorer.
Harry Kane, a well recognized deep-lying forward who possesses a very wide range of passing and finishing can completely revamp United’s attacking dynamic by constantly dropping into midfield and engaging link-up play with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Eriksen and Mason Mount who are also very good technicians and passers of the ball. Kane’s presence in midfield can draw opposition centre backs out of position in the process, leaving space in behind for pacey wingers like Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and Sancho to exploit. Rashford in particular, has been the danger man in attack for United after scoring sixteen (16) goals in thirty-five (35) appearances in the league and could be the major beneficiary of Kane’s potential move.
Apart from his creative play, Kane is also one of the best finishers in world football and can confidently find the back of the net when presented with an opportunity to do so. A threat from both inside and outside the box as well as the penalty spot, Kane has different ways of hurting the opposition leaving defences in constant panic whenever he is on the pitch playing at his absolute best. He has scored at least seventeen (17) goals every season in the Premier League since the start of 2014/2015 season and is one of only seven (7) players in the history of the Premier League to finish as both top goalscorer and top assist provider in the same season, doing so in 2020/2021.
Kane’s experience and profile as the captain of both England and Tottenham matches United’s historic tradition of having leaders present in their title winning squads. Despite not winning any major trophies, Kane has led teams to finals of big tournaments, most notably the Champions League and Euro final. He has consistently delivered high quality performances throughout his career and has shown hunger to win silverware. Should this move materialise, it could be the start of a new wave of unparalleled success for United.
