In a serious legal move, global music star and philanthropist Davido, has issued a cease and desist letter to fellow artist Dammy Krane. Represented by his legal team, Davido demands the immediate retraction of defamatory statements made by Dammy Krane on social media.
Krane had earlier made a contentious post, dated June 21, 2024, on his X (formerly Twitter) account, implying that Davido is a murderer and advised him against marriage due to alleged infidelity.
The tweet read, “Theres nothing worse than murderr @davido you fit get money but you no fit get peace #karma.
PS: Don’t ever get married because your girl caught you cheating you wan gbe-iya-wo (carry suffer look)
Congratulations Owe B Owe
-Big Daddy Krane”
In response to the post, the cease and desist letter from Davido’s legal team asserted that these claims are entirely false, malicious, damaging to his reputation and that “He (Davido) has never been charged with or convicted of any offence, including murder.”
The letter stated, “Our client is well known around the world as an accomplished and multiple award-winning singer-songwriter, global celebrity and a philanthropist. He is also the recipient of the prestigious National Honour of the Order of the Niger (OON). We are informed by our client that you have repeatedly published statements on your social media platforms that he finds not only defamatory and offensive but which also constitute an act of cyber bullying.
“Our client has further informed us that whilst in Abuja, he became aware of the latest in your series of defamatory posts, which is your publication of June 21, 2024, which you caused to be published on your X (formerly “Twitter”) page using the handle @dammy_ krane.
“The malicious nature of your post is also evident from your subsequent post taunting our client and stating that ‘He can’t sue because I speak the truth oponu’, when in fact you know your allegations to be false and outlandish.”
The letter highlights that Dammy Krane’s post has been circulated widely, reaching over 342,600 followers and syndicated by numerous blogs, causing significant global backlash
against Davido.
The letter therefore demanded that Dammy Krane “remove and retract” the defamatory statements “within 24 hours” and “immediately refrain from any further publication of defamatory statements …on any platform whatsoever.”
“Failure to comply with these demands within the stipulated time frame will compel our client to pursue all available legal remedies, including but not limited to initiating legal proceedings against you for damages and injunctive relief, and escalating this matter to the relevant law enforcement agencies”, the letter warned.
