Reports That Dangote Selling Cement at a Higher Price in Nigeria ‘False and Incorrect’, Director Says

Dangote Cement, Africa’s leading cement producer has denied claims that the price of cement in Nigeria is higher than in other African countries such as Zambia and Ghana describing the reports as “false and bogus”.

Edwin Devakumar, the Group Executive Director, Strategy, Capital Projects and Portfolio Development of the company told ARISE News on Monday that the cement price in Zambia is definitely not lower than the price of cement in Nigeria.
“I am having an invoice here which clearly specifies what is the price we are selling cement in Zambia. The cement price is 131 (Zambian) Kwacha per bag and then 22 kwacha to a dollar, it is coming to $5.95 a bag, $119 a tonne. So obviously this information is false and incorrect,” Mr Devakumar said when he featured on The Morning Show.
“As you know, in every country we operate we try to be the lowest priced company in the product in which we are dealing and yet we are comparing the price of cement in Nigeria with Zambia and as I said the information is incorrect but we don’t compare the price of corn between Zambia and Nigeria, we don’t compare the price of rice between Zambia and Nigeria. You know that prices of products will differ in different countries because of different reasons.
