Cult Attack In Uganda Leaves Eight Dead, Including Three-Year-Old

In a shocking incident, suspected cult members launched an attack on the village of Mizizi A in Uganda’s Kagadi district on Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including a three-year-old child. This violent assault, which authorities describe as an act of extreme brutality, also left eight others injured.

The attack unfolded in the hamlet, located approximately 250 kilometres (150 miles) west of the capital city, Kampala. Preliminary investigations by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) indicate that the assailants, identified as members of a newly emerging cult, targeted individuals within their own families. “Preliminary information indicates that members of a new cult whose name is yet to be established descended on people, most of whom are their family members, and cut them,” stated a representative of the UPDF.

The local police reported that among the deceased, four were children under the age of 13, highlighting the tragic nature of this event. As the investigation continues, security forces, including military personnel and police, are actively pursuing the perpetrators. Two of the suspected attackers were killed by security forces as they responded to the scene, underscoring the urgent measures being taken to restore order and capture those responsible.

This incident raises concerns in the region, particularly given Kagadi’s proximity to the Kingfisher oilfield, one of Uganda’s key crude oil projects operated by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). However, authorities have indicated that there is no evidence suggesting the oilfield was a target or involved in the attack.

As investigations are ongoing, local authorities urge the community to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces to prevent further violence. The attack has sent shockwaves through the village, with residents grappling with the tragic loss of life and the senseless violence inflicted by those once considered family.
