The Nigerian Army has said the willingness of citizens in the northwestern region of the country to provide credible intelligence aided the rescue of the abducted schoolboys from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara in Katsina state on Thursday.

Major General John Enenche, the Coordinator of Defence Media Operations was a guest on ARISE News and said the level of intelligence provision and information provision is a lot better in the northwest compared to other regions, where the conspiracy of silence is frustrating their efforts.
He’s of the view that the conspiracy of silence in several regions of the country where the fight against insurgency is currently ongoing is impeding the fight.
He said: “Our objective all over the country is to ensure that we nip them in the bud or at the worst case scenario bring them to a decisive conclusion without losing anybody or leaving anybody behind.
“The reason here is that, I know this might at the end of the day attract a lot of reactions, but the level of intelligence provision, information provision is a lot better in the northwest than in some of the other zones.
“There, the conspiracy of silence is not that much in the northwest compared to other areas. The truth of the matter is that from when they begin to open up to you, we even have people who call themselves repentant bandits without being arrested.
“There are families that even wives came up to the military authorities and reported their husbands, handed in weapons, not all of these things we bring out to the open because we need to protect our informants.
“But I can tell you that, that was one of the main reason (why the schoolboys were rescued) because from the time we got the technical intelligence, information, before the Airforce moved into the air, the land forces and all, it was all cooperation at every stage of our move, until when we now cordoned off the whole area, establish the blocking positions and nobody could move out, I mean from the air we’re getting information and they had to capitulate.”
