Covid-19: Nigerian Government Needs to Gain Citizens’ Trust, Infectious Disease Expert Says

There has been a lot of mistrust in the Nigerian government by the citizens who rightly or wrongly believe they are not being told all that there is to be told with regards to health matters and finance.
Bola Olayinka, a Professor of Medical Microbiology and an Infectious Disease specialist told ARISE News Friday that the federal government needs to really work hard to gain the trust of Nigerians.
“In recent times there has been a lot of mistrust in government by the people and government needs to really work hard on gaining the trust of Nigerians especially when it relates to health matters and monies that have to be spent on Covid,” Professor Olayinka said.
“There is still a lot of backlash on the 3.5 trillion Naira that was spent because people do not know what it was spent on. So government could actually come out and be a bit accountable to the people and I think that might help people to begin to listen a bit more and to respond more positively to things that the government is bringing across regarding the control of Covid-19.
