Covid-19: Nigeria Reintroduces Nationwide Curfew, Restrictions on Mass Gatherings

Authorities in Nigeria have reintroduced restrictions on mass gatherings to curb the further spread of Covid-19.
The Presidential steering committee on Covid-19 also reintroduced a nationwide 12 am to 4 am curfew as part of efforts to curtail further spread of the disease.
The committee’s national incident manager, Mukhtar Mohammed, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday, noting that the curfew would take effect from midnight on Monday, May 10.
Mr Mohammed said event centres and non-essential public places such as night clubs, gyms and others will remain closed till further notice.
Religious gatherings and social events such as weddings would hold only with 50 per cent of maximum capacity while official engagements and meetings are to continue to hold virtually.
The committee ordered security personnel to enforce the adherence to the measures as well as others that have been in place to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
There are growing concerns over the surge in infections and resultant deaths recorded in some countries particularly Brazil, India and Turkey.
The federal government had earlier announced that foreigners who recently visited the three countries will no longer be allowed to enter Nigeria.
