Country music icon Garth Brooks is facing allegations, including rape, sexual assault, and battery, as detailed in a lawsuit lodged in California state court.
The plaintiff, identified as “Jane Roe,” claims that while employed as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the Grammy-winning artist, Brooks sexually assaulted her.
The woman’s lawsuit also claims that he made sexually explicit comments to her and repeatedly molested her during her employment from 2017 to 2020.
Brooks declared the woman’s lawsuit to be “extortion and defamation,” according to the BBC.
The accuser claims that in May 2019, Brooks requested that she accompany him on his private aircraft to a Grammy tribute in Los Angeles. According to the legal action, Mr. Brooks had reserved a single suite with a single chamber for them to share upon their arrival at the hotel.
The lawsuit states that the country singer exposed himself in the bedroom doorway before sexually assaulting her upon entering the hotel suite and alleges that Brooks continued to make sexual advances on other occasions after the alleged assault, compelling her to touch his genitals and participate in his fantasies.
The legal action also alleges that Brooks proposed to Jane Roe that they form a threesome with his wife, fellow country star Trisha Yearwood.
The country singer stated to the BBC that, “for the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face.
“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behaviour I am incapable of – ugly acts no human should ever do to another.”
“I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be,” the country singer added.
According to CNN, attorneys representing Roe asserted that Brooks’ attempt to stifle their client by filing a preemptive complaint in Mississippi was merely a desperate act of intimidation.
“We are confident that Brooks will be held accountable for his actions,” attorneys Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker stated. “We applaud our client’s courage in moving forward with her complaint against Garth Brooks. The complaint filed today demonstrates that sexual predators exist not only in corporate America, Hollywood and in the rap and rock and roll industries but also in the world of country music.”
An anonymous lawsuit was filed in Mississippi federal court by an individual who is described as “a celebrity and public figure who resides in Tennessee” three weeks ago, which sparked litigation regarding the issue, and Brooks was the individual in question.
Brooks stated that Jane Roe had made the accusation after he declined her request for salaried employment and medical benefits. In a preemptive legal action, he categorically denied her allegations, describing them as revulsive and untrue.
