Colombian President Gustavo Petro has called on undocumented Colombians living in the United States to “immediately” leave their jobs and return to Colombia.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Petro assured returnees that the Department of Social Prosperity would provide financial support through credit programs to help them reintegrate into Colombian society.
His statement comes as the Colombian air force continues to transport deportees from the US to Bogotá following a recent dispute between the two countries over deportation flights.
Earlier this week, Petro’s government reached an agreement with US officials, averting a potential economic crisis. The dispute had prompted both nations to threaten trade tariffs, with the US also imposing visa restrictions on certain Colombian officials.
