Collaboration Is Key, VP Shettima Says, Champions Public-Private Partnerships To Boost Nigeria’s Economy

In a compelling call for economic reform, Vice President Kashim Shettima has advocated for a stronger partnership between the government and the private sector to drive Nigeria’s economic growth.

Shettima said this while he spoke at the Heirs Holdings Group Directors’ Annual Summit Dinner in Abuja, where he also praised the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu for his entrepreneurial contributions to Africa’s economy.

The Vice President emphasised the necessity of open dialogue and collaborative efforts to address the nation’s unique economic challenges.

Highlighting the importance of synergy between political and economic stakeholders, Shettima stated, “Politics is too important to be left to the politicians, and enterprises that define our economic destination are too important to be left to the businessmen alone to develop.”

Going in line with President Bola Tinubu’s economic vision, the Vice President urged the private sector to become active partners in implementing practical and impactful economic reforms.

We must engage in open dialogue and share insights and work together to crop solutions that are peculiar to our realities. Whether it is tackling unemployment, reducing poverty, or enhancing education and healthcare, our partnership must aspire to drive sustainable development and create a safe future for all Nigerians,” he said.

Shettima then lauded Tony Elumelu for his entrepreneurial vision and contributions to Africa’s economic landscape. He described Elumelu as an ” enigma and a banking colossus” whose commitment to empowering young African entrepreneurs has significantly impacted the continent.

He also reassured the business community of the government’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

Tony Elumelu, reiterating his commitment to Africapitalism, highlighted the importance of the private sector in Africa’s development. He cited the empowerment of 20,000 young African entrepreneurs as a major achievement, reflecting the group’s focus on human impact.

The event, attended by high-profile government officials and business leaders, underscored the critical role of multi-stakeholder collaboration in achieving national development goals.

The Founding Trustee of the Tony Elumelu Foundation and Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, Dr. Awele Elumelu, in her welcome address, praised VP Shettima as an exemplary leader dedicated to public service and nation-building, describing him as a man who “embodies excellence.”
