A car bomb injured an officer from Russia’s military intelligence agency, the Kommersant newspaper reported. The explosion, which also injured an unidentified woman, occurred shortly after they entered the vehicle.
Russia’s interior ministry confirmed that two people were injured by the detonation of an unidentified device and stated that a criminal case has been opened. The blast ripped through a Toyota Land Cruiser, with Russian media outlets sharing footage of the explosion’s aftermath.
Kommersant, one of Russia’s leading newspapers, identified the injured man as a member of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, commonly known as the GRU. Baza, a news outlet with sources in Russia’s security services, corroborated that the injured individual was a GRU officer.
State news agency TASS reported that the officer and his wife were the victims of the blast, with the man’s feet reportedly blown off. Additionally, the explosion damaged five other cars.
Authorities are investigating the incident, aiming to determine the motive and those responsible for the attack.
