Nigerian popstar Burna Boy is set to release a new album later this year, his first since his historic win at the Grammys and his third record in three years.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the star teased, “I’m definitely planning to drop my next album this year. Especially, at the same time I dropped the last one. I’m trying to do that as long as I can.”
Burna Boy has released new records each of the past two summers: ‘African Giant’ in 2019 and ‘Twice as Tall’ in 2020.
Late on Thursday, the released a new song, ‘Kilometre’. It’s the first solo single from the artist since he won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album for ‘Twice as Tall.’
The Chopstix-produced song sees the star singing about the distance he’s traveled to reach his current level as one of the top African artists in the world.
On the meaning behind the song and how it came about, Burna told Lowe: “It’s really me talking about how far I’ve come, I’ve come a long way. At the same time, just having fun with it. When the song drops, start running around, wherever you go. Just start running around. It doesn’t need an explanation.”
“It was just fun. Really, man. We had a retreat beach house slash just paradise place in Ghana where I was working in, and one just came of. That’s one of the ones that just came of from that. I actually, took it to the club that day. I actually tried to visit the club back here. We got one.”
