Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has made the decision to postpone his highly anticipated live concert, originally scheduled for this weekend at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium, to a new date on December 16. The announcement of the concert’s postponement was made by the event’s ticketing agency, Ticket Pro.
Ticket Pro cited a combination of factors for the rescheduling, with a significant emphasis on the “lack of ticket sales” as one of the key reasons. However, Burna Boy’s management company, Spaceship, has conveyed a different perspective, blaming the concert’s promoters for not fulfilling their “contractual, financial, production, and technical obligations.”
In a statement reported by Nigerian media, Spaceship expressed regret over the situation, stating, “Sadly, it is with great regret that we must inform you that, despite my team’s effort, the show in Johannesburg… will be cancelled.” The statement highlighted that production vendors had not received payment, indicating that the agreed-upon production standards required for an event of this venue size could not be met.
The management company further asserted that ticketing companies must ensure that ticket holders receive full refunds. While apologising to fans for the inconvenience, they expressed anticipation for future opportunities to connect with their supporters.
Burna Boy’s concert in Johannesburg had generated immense excitement and was expected to be a highlight in the South African music scene. The FNB Stadium, with a capacity of 90,000, had been booked to accommodate the massive turnout anticipated for the event.
The postponement has naturally disappointed fans, but the hope remains that the rescheduled concert will offer an unforgettable experience once all contractual and production issues are resolved.
