Buhari to Attend African Finance Summit in France, to Meet President Macron

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari is set to meet France President Emmanuel Macron when he departs for the European nation on Sunday to attend the African Finance Summit.

The West African country’s leader is expected to discuss the growing security threats in the Sahel and Lake Chad region with President Macron.

They will also discuss climate change, economic ties, political relations and partnership to improve Nigeria’s health sector and contain the spread of COVID-19.

Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu in a statement on Saturday said the summit will also be “focused on reviewing African economy, following shocks from coronavirus pandemic and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries”.

“Before returning to Nigeria, President Buhari will receive some key players in the oil and gas sector, engineering and telecommunications, European Council and European Union Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Commission, and members of the Nigerian community,” Mr Shehu added.

“The President will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, and Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire,” the spokesman said.

“Also on the trip are: National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Mohammed Monguno (rtd) and Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.”
