Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has reappointed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of the country’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Yakubu was first appointed head of the commission in 2015 and now has another five-year term.
According to Presidential aide, Femi Adesina, the President has sent a letter to that effect to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.
“In accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate, the nomination of Professor Mahmood Yakubu for appointment as Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a second and final term,” Buhari said in the letter.
