Buhari Declined Floating Naira + Tinubu, Otedola On Dangote Award + Davido, Asake’s Grammy Nods – Trending With Ojy Okpe

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards taking place in Los Angeles California on Sunday February 4th, marks the first time the Best African Performance category will be included and 5 Nigerians made the list.

They include, Davido for his hit single ‘Unavailable’, Burna Boy, for City Boys, Asake& Olamide for ‘Amapiano’ and Ayra Starr for her hit single Rush! Fireboy DML earned a Grammy nomination in the Album of the Year category for his contributions to Jon Batiste’s ‘World Music Radio’. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, on the award of the National Order of the Lion by President Macky Sall of Senegal.

The award which is the highest order of Senegal will be bestowed on the foremost businessman today February 2nd in Senegal. President Tinubu applauds the industrialist for his enterprise and ingenuity, creating jobs and opportunities for many in Nigeria and across West Africa, as well as contributing to their economies, which the award further affirms. Billionaire Businessman, and the new Chairman of First bank holdings PLC, Femi Otedola has also congratulated his best friend, Aliko Dangote for the Award, taking to instagram, Otedola posted a congratulatory message.

In Kaduna State, ‘Isah Muazu’ an 11-year-old Almajiri, who was brutalized by his Islamic scholar, has been rescued by the state Governor Uba Sani. The horrific video of Muazu who is an indegene of Kaduna State, surfaced online, after he was tortured by his teacher Mallam Nura in Niger state. In the video, Muazu said his teacher flogged him leaving massive wounds at his back because he could not do his studies properly.

Uba Sani, who received Muazu, at the government house on Tuesday, said that there is no part of the Qur’an which says underage children should be tortured in a dehumanising manner, and that criminal charges will be filed against the Islamic teacher who was caught on camera flogging the the student, Uba Sani added that a directive has been issued for all children who are indigenes of Kaduna to be sent back home from almajiri schools in Niger state.

Actress, Simi Gold has been convicted and sentenced to six-months in prison for defacing the Naira. The actress was arrested in February 2023 after a video surfaced showing her spraying and stepping on the naira notes at a party.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stated that her actions violated Section 21 of the CBN Act of 2007. The actress was given an option of a N300 thousand Naira fine to be deposited into the consolidated revenue account of the federation.

Super Falcons Stiker, Asisat Oshoala has been signed by American club Bay FC. The 29-year-old, who was named African Women’s Footballer of the Year for a sixth time in December, signed the deal with the National Women’s Soccer League team till 2026, with the option of a third year. Oshoala has won four league titles, the Champions League twice, and eight domestic cups during five years in Spain, where she had five months to run on her contract with the Catalan club. She was the first African woman to win a Champions League title in 2021 – having already become the first African woman to score in a final in 2019.
