On Tuesday, December 17, politicians and lawmakers, including a former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, paid a surprise visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his home in Daura, Katsina State, to celebrate his 82nd birthday.

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on residents to support President Bola Tinubu, stating that if the president fails, he too will fail. The governor made this remark during a state function while addressing the people of Delta.

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday granted a pardon to Olowookere Segun, who had been sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl and eggs when he was 17 years old.

Social media was awash with reactions after a video surfaced online showing Segun’s parents narrating the story of their son. The mother revealed that her son was accused of breaking into the house of a police officer in April 2010 and carting away some belongings.

He was subsequently charged with conspiracy and robbery and sentenced to death. Upon hearing the news, Governor Adeleke granted him a pardon.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has banned arbitrary arrests, detentions, and phone searches of road users by police officers across Nigeria.

The directive, issued on Tuesday, warned that such unlawful practices tarnish the police’s image. Egbetokun vowed severe punishment for offenders, including Commissioners of Police and their supervisors.
