British Prosecutors Approve Charges Against Five Individuals For Spying On Behalf of Russia

The United Kingdom’s Crown Prosecution Service has given its approval for charges to be filed against five individuals who are under suspicion of engaging in espionage on behalf of Russia.

They are listed as Orlin Roussev, 45, Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, Katrin Ivanova, 31, Ivan Stoyanov, 31, and Vanya Gaberova, 29, and they will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 26.

The Guardian reported that the Crown Prosecution Service accused the three men and two women, aged between 29 and 45, of “conspiring to collect information intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy.”

Nick Price, the head of the CPS’s special crime and counter-terrorism division, said that the accused “will be charged with conspiring to collect information intended to be directly or indirectly useful to an enemy for a purpose prejudicial to the safety and interest of the state between 30 August 2020 and 8 February 2023.”

They stand accused of engaging in ongoing activities within the United Kingdom and Europe and gathering and transmitting information to the Russian government.

The accused individuals are believed to have been part of an active spy unit associated with Russian security agencies, with their responsibilities encompassing the monitoring of specific targets.

The CPS also announced that Roussev, Dzhambazov, and Ivanova were previously accused of committing identity document-related offenses in February.
