Britain is reportedly exploring the option of deploying troops to Ukraine as part of a European-led peacekeeping force, according to a report by The Telegraph on Friday. Sources familiar with the discussions suggest that the plan could see British soldiers stationed in Ukraine for up to five years, aiming to provide stability in the post-conflict period.
The primary goal of this proposed force would be to deter any potential Russian aggression following a peace agreement, as well as to provide vital support and respite for Ukraine’s own military forces. The idea is one of several potential options being discussed among Ukraine’s allies as they look to bolster the country’s position in the event of a settlement with Russia.
A spokesperson for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed earlier in March that numerous countries have expressed willingness to contribute peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. This would form part of a broader strategy to maintain order and prevent further escalation after a peace deal, should one be reached.
As the situation remains fluid, discussions surrounding the peacekeeping mission continue, with the international community aiming to ensure that any eventual resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict remains stable and sustainable.
