An Emirate airline has touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Nigerian capital with 3.92 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Nigeria becomes the third country in Africa after Ghana and Ivory Coast to receive the vaccines from COVAX.
The first batch of the vaccines touched down Tuesday morning and was handed over to the chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and the Seretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

The country has also launched an online registration portal for Covid-19 vaccinations, its primary healthcare agency said on Monday, the day before the first doses are expected to arrive for its 200 million people.

A UNICEF representative here in Nigeria who spoke to our correspondent at the airport stated the importance of Nigerians to still observe the safety protocols despite the arrival of the vaccines.
