Borno Imposes 24-Hour Curfew After Deadly Market Bombing Kills At Least 16

The Borno State government has declared a 24-hour curfew following a deadly bomb attack that killed at least 16 people in the Konduga area on Wednesday.

The explosion, believed to be caused by a suspected suicide bomber, targeted a market in Kawori community, located about 50 kilometres from Maiduguri.

In a statement released on Thursday, Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno police command, confirmed the incident and the resulting fatalities.

“The explosion led to the death of 16 people,” Daso stated, adding that several others were critically injured and are receiving treatment in various government hospitals across the state.

The statement emphasised the role of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining law and order.

“In line with our constitutional mandate towards the restoration of law and order, His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with heads of security in the state, finds it expedient to declare a 24-hour curfew with immediate effect,” Daso announced.

The government has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation is being managed. Further updates will be provided as the authorities continue to address the aftermath of the attack.
