Arab, Western, and Turkish diplomats reached an agreement on Saturday during talks in Jordan, stressing the need for an “inclusive” government in Syria following the potential overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking to reporters after the meeting, stated that the participants would release a joint statement emphasising their unified stance.
“We agreed that the transition process should be Syrian-led and Syrian-owned and produce an inclusive and representative government,” Blinken said.
The talks, hosted in Jordan, come amid increasing international discussions on Syria’s future governance and the potential pathways to a political transition.
