President Joe Biden, in a recent address, cautioned that Hurricane Milton could potentially be one of the most devastating storms to hit the United States in the last century, urging residents to evacuate immediately.
Just weeks after experiencing a catastrophic hurricane, Florida is preparing for another potent storm. Hurricane Milton, a Category Four, is anticipated to make landfall on Wednesday.
The president urged residents of Florida in evacuation zones to leave immediately, emphasizing the critical nature of the situation, and he has communicated with local political leaders, assuring them that any assistance they require will be provided.
With winds already reaching 180 mph and potential storm surges of up to 15 feet, he cautioned that Hurricane Milton may enter and exit Florida as a hurricane, prolonging the expected destruction.
The National Hurricane Centre has classified Milton as an “extremely powerful storm,” indicating that it poses a substantial threat to the state.
Governor Ron DeSantis has advised residents in the storm’s path to comply with evacuation orders. Additionally, the emergency management chief of Florida issued a warning that the anticipated hurricane surges may be “unsurvivable.”
This warning is in response to the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, a Category Four storm that struck the Gulf Coast less than two weeks ago. The storm caused at least 225 fatalities in a variety of states, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina, which was the most severely affected.
