US President Joe Biden and Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu have held a 30-minute phone call, believed to be their first contact since their meeting at the G-20 summit in India last year, which included discussions on the recent release of a suspect linked to the cryptocurrency exchange, Binance.
In a briefing, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar reports Biden thanked Tinubu for Nigeria’s partnership, highlighting the importance of Africa’s role in global affairs.
They also addressed Nigeria’s push for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, with Biden reaffirming support for two African seats including one for Nigeria.
Both leaders emphasised their commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, expressing a desire to maintain communication despite Biden’s upcoming departure from office.
