Benin Court Approves President Talon’s Election Win

Benin’s constitutional court has approved the election results that showed President Patrice Talon had won.
President Talon won with 86% of the votes, while Allasane Soumanou got about 11.3% and Corentin Kohoué came in third with 2.3% in Sunday’s elections.
The court has approved the results pending appeals that could be filed in the next five days.
The court ruling comes amid reports that one of the presidential candidates who was barred from contesting – Joel Aivo – had been arrested, AFP news agency reports.
Another presidential hopeful – Reckya Madougou – who was also barred, was detained last month and accused of plotting to undermine elections.
