Bayero Illegally Occupying Nasarawa Palace As He’s Now Just A Citizen, Says Kano Government Spokesperson Bature

Sanusi Bature, Spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has asserted that the Ex-Emir Aminu Adu Bayero’s occupancy of the Nasarawa Mini Palace is now illegal as he is now a mere citizen of Kano state, following his dethronement.

Bature in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, while defending the governor’s eviction order, said the Nasarawa Mini Palace residence is only reserved as a guest house for palace VIPs which also doubles as a graveyard for dead former Emirs. He added that the eviction order is only a fair treatment.

The Kano State Government on Thursday, directed the Commissioner of Police to vacate the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from his residence at Nasarawa GRA Mini Palace following a federal High Court ruling, necessitating the Emir’s departure to facilitate the renovation of the property.

“By virtue of the federal high court, declaring the law as valid, it confirms the deposition of former Emir Aminu Adu Bayero and for the fact that he is now deposed, he is now a private citizen like every other citizen of Kano and he should not in any way be seen to occupy a government property. Evicting him from that place is fair because he is living in a very defective structure and also that place is a guest house for the VIPs of the palace and a graveyard for former Emirs. He is an illegal occupant of that facility because he is now a citizen, no longer the Emir of Kano State.

“That government property like we have been saying is defective and we don’t want to create a meaning out of anything that can happen because it is a mud house and it has not been used for a long period of time and he stayed there. He forcefully entered by himself for over a month now. We wanted him to vacate that place so that renovation can happen because that place is used as a guest house and a graveyard. It needs to be renovated quickly so that it can serve the purpose which it was meant for. For him to continue to stay there is uncalled for. That is why we ordered the police to evict him.”

Bature also stated that Bayero’s decision to return to Kano after his dethronement is an attempt to breach the relative peace experienced in Kano state.

He also reiterated that the position of an emir is not an inherent right but a privilege bestowed upon a select group.

“When the governor reinstated Emir Mohammadu Sanusi, he gave 48 hours for all the former emirs to vacate the palaces and Aminu Adu Bayero, in his own wisdom, decided to remove his family and everything belonging to him at the palace. I was there. It was so empty when Emir Mohammadu Sanusi entered. But a few hours after, some unpatriotic politicians from outside Kano decided to ignite him to come back to Kano to strike a fight. This thing, whether we like it or not, there is politics to it.

“Kano is a very volatile state politically and the fact that Emir Bayero decided to come back to Kano after his dethronement is an attempt to breach the relative peace in the state. So, the governor has the responsibility as the chief security officer to ensure the safety of people. Being an Emir is not a right but a privilege granted a particular class of people.”
