Bauchi to Spend N7.8 Billion for Reconstruction of State Assembly Complex

Bauchi State Government has approved N7.8bn for reconstruction and renovation of the state Assembly complex, enhancing working conditions.

The Bauchi State Government has approved the sum of N7,803,000,000 billion for the reconstruction and renovation of the state Assembly complex.

The Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.

According to him, the project was conceived and brought forward to the State Executive Council by the Governor, Bala Mohammed.

He added that to this end, the Ministry then submitted a memorandum to the State Executive Council which was ratified and approved.

Kawule stated that the renovation and reconstruction work on the State Assembly is a big component which will include a building for the Assembly’s Commission, offices of Committee Chairmen, offices of Directors of the Assembly and befitting offices for the Speaker and his deputy.

He said that the contract is expected to be completed and put into use within 18 months.

“We have gotten ratification from the council on the memorandum for the renovation and reconstruction of Bauchi state House of Assembly Complex where His Excellency came up with the idea just to create a conducive atmosphere for the entire members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly. This is in addition to the Commission.

“This is a very big quantum of component. There are offices for Committee Chairmen, there are offices for Directors of Bauchi State House of Assembly and other befitting offices for the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. And at the same time, there is a building for delivery of work of the members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Commission.

“Everybody knows that His Excellency is really doing a lot in terms of discharging his responsibilities and he does a lot for the executive arm of government, he does a lot for the judiciary and now he’s facing the legislators where he’s going to start with their working environment, providing all the necessary tools so they can be able to discharge their responsibilities accordingly.

“The contract is worth N7,803,000,000. This is captured in the document and it is everybody for everybody to see. And we have followed all the necessary procedures and due process and have gotten the certificate. The procurement was achieved very well and we have received the certificate written that 50% of the said amount be paid to the contractor. I believe that within the next one year and six months, the contract would be successfully finished,” the Commissioner, a former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly said.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Shehu Usman Shehu, said the Governor has secured a temporary place for the lawmakers to be sitting pending the completion of the work.

“It’s going to be a total transformation of the whole Assembly complex, it’s not just about minor works but it will be done completely”, he said.
