Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has called for further intervention and support from the Federal government in the area of security in order to tackle the spate of banditry bedevilling the state.
Radda, who made the call on Friday while addressing protesters in Birchi community of Kurfi local government area of the state, said the state needs reinforcement from the federal government to end the carnage.
The irked youths were protesting over the recent bandits’ attack on Wurma community of the local government, where people were killed and a health facility, police outpost, houses and vehicles were set ablaze by the hoodlums.
But the governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, called on the federal government to assist the state in the ongoing war against banditry and other security challenges.
Radda, however, said the state government will mobilize 100 security personnel to Wurma community and “we will feed them on a daily basis” in order to restore peace and tranquility in the devastated community.
He said: “Your protest is genuine and I feel for you, but please remain calm as government is doing all it can to stop this. Words cannot express the profound grief I feel for the families who have lost loved ones in this senseless act of violence.
“My heart aches for the children who have lost their parents and the community that has been so deeply affected. I stand with you in this time of unimaginable pain and hardship.”
Governor Radda said his administration was working with security agencies to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice, adding that: “We will not rest until peace and security are restored to Katsina State.”
While calling on the residents of Birchi and Wurma communities to support the state’s Community Watch Corps members and conventional security agencies in tackling banditry, Radda reiterated his readiness to restore peace in the areas.
