Bode George: Iyorchia Ayu Must Resign To Foster Inclusiveness

Former National Deputy Chairman for the People’s Democratic Party, Bode George, spoke on Wednesday during The Morning show about the laws and traditions that the founding fathers of thd party put in place to ensure balance across the six geo-political zones in Nigeria.

George expressed his displeasure on Iyorchia Ayu’s refusal to resign from the office of National Chairman before the 2023 general election, saying that it destroys the stability of the party.

He emphasized that the lack of a representative from the south west zone in one of the party’s six important positions is diminishing the number of supporters from that region, and that the correct thing for Ayu to do is to resign so that the National Chairman position can be filled by a member of the south west.

“The offices have been distributed in such a way that every zone will go home with a position.

“When Ayu became chairman, he knew that if the presidency came from the North that he would have to resign so that the people in the south would have a sense of inclusivity.”

George stated that because of the numerous issues currently facing Nigeria, it is impossible to appeal to the south-west zone when there is no one from their region holding any significant position within the party.

He continued by saying that he is not evaluating this case based on Ayu’s abilities and that he’s doing his best while in office. Instead, he is concerned about the political party and inclusivity of every zone so that there will be a sense of belonging and oneness.

Bode George reassured the public that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is a nationally inclined party.

“We need to reassure our people that this is a party that is nationally inclined. We should do what should be done so we can bring that sense of oneness and belonging to the people.”
