Ayra Starr Secures Four Nominations at 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards

Oyinkansola Aderigbigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has garnered four nominations for the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).

The announcement came on Tuesday when the organizlsers unveiled the nominees list. Fellow Nigerian artists Asake, Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems have also been nominated for the ‘Best Afrobeats’ award.

South Africa’s Tyla has achieved four nominations as well, including ‘Best New,’ ‘Best Afrobeats,’ ‘Best R&B,’ and ‘Best African Act.’

Ayra Starr is in the running for ‘Best African Act,’ ‘Best Afrobeats,’ ‘Best Push,’ and ‘Best New Artist’ categories.

Furthermore, Asake debuts at the 2024 EMAs with nominations for ‘Best African Act’ and ‘Best Afrobeats.’ He joins 19 other nominees, including Chappell Roan, Disclosure and Fred Again, The Last Dinner Party, and BTS’s Jimin, all vying for their first EMA win.

The EMAs have featured a Best African Act category for nearly two decades, marking one of the first Western awards to acknowledge the expansion and diversity of contemporary African mainstream music in the post-millennium era.

This year’s nominees are a diverse array of artists: Nigerian titans Ayra Starr and Asake, iconic Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, South African artiste Tyla, DJ/occasional vocalist DBN Gogo, and the “Tshwala Bam” duo TitoM and Yuppe.

The 2024 MTV EMAs will be held at Manchester’s Co-op Live in the United Kingdom on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Additionally, this edition commemorates the award show’s 30th anniversary.
