Atiku, Okowa, Ayu Lead Protest as PDP Supporters March to INEC Headquarters

The leaders of the People’s Democratic Party led a protest to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s head office in Abuja to protest the result of the February 25 presidential election.

The members of PDP led by the party’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate and governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and other leaders of the party, led the protest, which was tagged the “Black Uniform Protest” to INEC’s headquarters to protest the outcome of the recently concluded presidential elections.

The governor of Taraba State Dariua Ishaku said, “We are aggrieved in the PDP that we were cheated out of the presidential race. We believe that Atiku Abubakar won this race, and we are here to submit a letter formally to INEC about our anger.”

The presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar claimed that the 2023 presidential election was the worst election in the history of Nigeria. He further said, “All the provisions of the current electoral law has been completely contravened. We were protesting, INEC was not listening. They were bent on announcing these results, that’s why we are protesting.”

He said that the protests will go on for a very long time, and also confirmed that the party will contest the results in court by saying, “It doesn’t stop us from going to court, the fact that we are protesting.”

The members of the Electoral Commission have received the protest letter from the leaders of the PDP.

The protesters eventually blocked the entrance to INEC headquarters. The security personnel have, however, locked the points of entry.
