Reactions have trailed the peaceful protest by the peoples Democratic Party, led by the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja over the controversial presidential election held on February 25th. Meanwhile, the all progressives congress has tackled Atiku Over the protest.
In a statement on Monday, the party’s media Director Bayo Onanuga said that instead of gathering evidence for the election petition tribunal, Atiku and his followers were dancing “skelewu” on the streets of the nation’s capital. The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has also taken a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Over the protest at INEC. Wike while speaking during the commissioning of a road in the state, WIke said that he had warned the leadership of the party over their insistence that northerners hold onto the presidential ticket and national chairmanship seat of the party and that now, while party members are demonstrating he is commissioning projects.
The decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to approach the Court of Appeal in Abuja, to allow the commission reconfigure the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System used in the presidential election before deploying them for the March 11 governorship and state legislative elections has elicited questions about the integrity of the recently held poll from a cross section of Nigerians. In another development, the governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi has said that he is not against the south-east’s decision to vote for Peter Obi during the presidential election but that the comments made by the Governor of Anambra State, professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo about the presidential ambition of the labour party presidential candidate have manifested.
In the wake of the law suit filed by Peter Obi, contesting the results of the February 25th presidential elections, his wife, Margret obi, in a video that is making the rounds on social media stated that her husband has a history of long court battles over a stolen mandate, and that he in fact is responsible for changing the constitution of Nigeria on election matters.
