At Least 10 Dead After Church Roof In Tamaulipas, Mexico Collapses

Local authorities report that a church roof collapse during a baptism ceremony in Mexico has resulted in the tragic deaths of a minimum of 10 individuals, which includes three children, as well as numerous injuries.

This took place on Sunday in the northeastern coastal town of Ciudad Madero within the Tamaulipas state.

About 60 individuals reportedly received medical attention for injuries, with 23 of them currently hospitalized.

After the incident, numerous individuals found themselves stranded within the church. Social media posts featured pictures of the church in a state of destruction, with a crowd of people scouring the debris in search of the missing individuals.

Americo Villarreal, the Governor of Tamaulipas, informed journalists present at the location, “Unfortunately, 10 people are confirmed dead. Of these, five are women, two men and three children.”

He asked the Secretary General of the Government, the State Coordinator of Civil Protection, and the officials from the Health sector to visit the incident site and oversee the coordination of rescue operations.

According to Villarreal, there was no anticipation of a further increase in the death count since all the missing individuals had now been located.

He also offered his support and empathy to both the families grieving the loss of their loved ones and the entire community affected by this tragic incident.

The Archdiocese of Mexico shared a social media message extending sympathies, stating, “We join in prayer with our sister diocese Tampico to intercede for our killed and injured brothers.”
