President, Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, spoke on the ongoing ASUU strike, stating that the Federal Government’s attempt to kill the moral of lecturers on strike by proposing the No – Work, No – Pay strategy has failed.
He made it clear that union members are not refusing to work because of pay, but rather because the Federal university’s educational system and working environment must be improved.
Professor Osodeke, stressed that the government must stop emphasizing salary payments in exchange for the return of personnel because it is not the union’s priority.
In light of this, he asked the government to respond to the union’s actual requests for the benefit of Nigerian youths.
Furthermore, he said the union cannot be coerced into ending the strike until the government complies with the request.
