Abdulrasheed Bawa, Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was released from the custody of the Department of State Service on Wednesday, just a few minutes before 10pm. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved Bawa’s suspension on June 14th and ordered a probe into his activities while in office, according to the secretary to the government of the federation the suspension followed weighty allegations of abuse of office. His release comes after 134 days in DSS Custody, lawyers and civil society groups faulted his continued detention without charges, describing it as unconstitutional and a violation of his fundamental human rights.
In a video now making the rounds on social media, Bawa was seen in a cheerful mood after his release surrounded by well wishers.
According to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, crude oil thieves have resorted to a new tactic of installing closed-circuit television cameras on trees to evade security operatives. The CCTV cameras, as well as Mortar launchers and defence systems were said to have been mounted by the oil thieves in various locations around the Oguta naval base in Imo state, as a plan to eliminate any potential danger to their illegal operations .
The discovery was made possible after an invasion by the military following information gathered by air surveillance carried out by Target Energy Tantita security services, and Operation Delta Safe in August an oil bunkering site was also uncovered.
