Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will not be on the touchline for his side’s Premier League clash against Manchester City after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The Spaniard’s side have been in a rich vein of form and he was looking forward to pitting his wits against his old employers, who are currently top of the table.

However, Arteta must now self-isolate for at least seven days after he tested positive for coronavirus

Arteta was the first high profile figure in the Premier League to test positive for coronavirus in March 2020, which led to the postponement of the Gunners’ clash with City.

It comes as the Omicron variant causes mass disruptions to the Premier League, with a number of fixtures being postponed in the last fortnight due to the rapid increase in cases across the United Kingdom.

The Premier League recorded its highest number of positive cases for a seven-day period in the week before Boxing Day, reflecting the increases seen countrywide.

Despite the disruption, clubs have agreed to continue with the league season to the best of their ability.
