Arsenal Lose to Everton After Fans Protest Super League Involvement

Arsenal fell at home to Everton 1-0 in the Premier League on Friday.

The match, however, was overshadowed by what took place outside of the Emirates, as several hundred Arsenal fans protested before the game to call for owner Stan Kroenke to leave the club over the club’s bid to join the European Super League.

Hours before kick-off, drum-beating supporters set off fireworks and chanted “We want Kroenke out” and “We want our Arsenal back” as well as hung banners that read, “Arsenal till I die. Kroenke out,” and “Our club our home. Sell up Stan.”

On the pitch, a Bernd Leno own goal a quarter-hour from time helped eighth-placed Everton put six points between them and the ninth-placed Gunners in the table.

The goal came from unlikely circumstances when Richarlison rolled a harmless cross straight at Leno, only for the Germany international keeper to miss the ball and have it deflect off his leg and into the net.

The win gives the struggling Gunners 46 points from 33 matches, while Everton have 52 with one fewer game played.
