Prosecutors in Argentina have initiated an investigation into former President Alberto Fernández, who faces serious accusations from his ex-partner, Fabiola Yáñez.

Yáñez, 43, recently filed a complaint alleging that Fernández, 65, physically abused her during their relationship, which ended after his presidency in 2023.

Yáñez’s allegations include psychological threats, physical aggression, and claims that Fernández forced her to have an abortion.

In a testimony given from Spain, she described enduring severe mistreatment.

Fernández, who is currently barred from leaving Argentina, denies all accusations. He has rejected the claims as unfounded and suggested that Yáñez’s visible injuries, shown in leaked photos, were the result of a “cosmetic treatment.”

Prosecutor Ramiro Gonzales has formally requested that charges be brought against Fernández, following the release of photos showing Yáñez with a black eye and bruises, which sparked widespread outrage in Argentina.

Under Argentine law, a judge will decide whether to bring charges based on the investigation’s findings.

Fernández, who served as president from 2019 to 2023, began his political career in the 1980s during the final days of Argentina’s military dictatorship.
